Near the path’s entrance, you’ll find the Native Butterfly Tent full of butterflies native to the Midwest. Follow the Butterfly Meadow through some of Missouri’s native pollinating plants. Next, travel to the Garden Galleries to learn about host plants and the butterflies they support. Before you leave the Visitor Center, venture into the new Moth Cave. Start your journey in the Martha Jane Phillips Starr Conservatory with an up-close encounter with Queen and Monarch butterflies and moths. Visit weekly to learn about butterflies though Festival Nights focusing on Mexico (July 22), the South Pacific Islands (July 29), and Japan (August 5). In 2023, Festival of Butterflies will explore butterflies through cultures around the world. This festival is a Kansas City family-favorite! Spend a day outdoors exploring tropical and native butterflies alongside stunning botanic displays. Inspired by multiple personal memories of childhood fort building, TreeMendous Experience is born of nature and ingenuity, utilizing remnants from the forest and upcycling abandoned material.įestival of Butterflies invites nature enthusiasts of all ages to celebrate the Midwest’s most whimsical pollinator at Powell Gardens. The House that Stands on Chicken Feet, designed by the preschool children of UMKC Berkley Zoo Room Inspired by one of our pollinators, The Beehive represents the important work bees play in plant life and the cycle of nature at Powell Gardens. The Beehive, designed by Celine & Ceanna Oberlechner (ages 11 and 9) Inspired by “Skrammellegepladsen” or “Adventure Playgrounds,” Box City represents children’s endless imagination and using boxes and recyclable materials to create their own adventure playground. This year’s fort designers include preschool children, architects, play specialists, and more.
